1939: while the world was on the brink of war, Hollywood was having a banner year. This course will survey the creative and industrial landscape of 1939 Hollywood and will look closely at Gone with the Wind (still the highest grossing film of all time, adjusted for inflation), and consider its historical context. This course will provide a glimpse into one of the most consequential years in American film history and its enduring legacies eighty years on.

This course is led by: Cortland Rankin, Assistant Professor of Film Studies, Bowling Green State University

An exclusive showing of Gone With The Wind will take place at the Marion Palace Theatre on October 21 at 12:00 p.m. We thank them for partnering with us on this fantastic program.
