How about learning American Sign Language? Marion Public Library cardholders can learn ASL through ASLdeafined.com. ASLdeafined is a comprehensive online platform that teaches American Sign Language. This is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in learning ASL. This database offers over 300 themed video lessons, an 18,000+ ASL video dictionary, and a mobile app all designed to provide an engaging and effective learning experience. Users will be able to explore basic to advanced ASL signs and grammar, learn essential vocabulary, and practice their communication skills. If you were able to attend any of the library’s ASL classes, ASLdeafined will be a useful tool for furthering those ASL skills built in our previous classes. Keep an eye on our event calendar for upcoming ASL classes in 2025! To access ASLdeafined for the first time, users will need their library card number to verify they are a Marion Public Library cardholder. During the initial login, users will create a username and password that they can then use to access the database going forward. MORE 60+ DIGITAL LITERACY CLASSES Registration starts December 9 Have you wanted to know more about navigating a computer and the Internet; wanted to figure out how to send an email and retrieve it again; or simply wanted to write a document and save it? All of these subjects and more will be addressed in our 60+ digital literacy classes designed to guide participants through real-world, hands on learning. Classes will be limited to 10 students with preference given to those who have not already taken the classes. These same classes were offered two times this past summer with accolades from participants. Those registering will sign up to attend a 4-weekly classes, choosing between a morning or afternoon session. Additionally, the Library’s regular programming will offer four related programs to enhance individuals online literacy. This digital learning opportunity is made possible in cooperation with Marion County Council on Aging.
