Our team has put together a great lineup of authors for our 2025 IN THE AUTHOR’S VOICE series. May 1: Linda Castillo and William Kent Krueger Linda Castillo is the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Kate Burkholder mystery series, set in the world of the Amish. The first book, Sworn to Silence, was adapted into a Lifetime original movie titled An Amish Murder. Castillo is the recipient of numerous industry awards including a nomination by the International Thriller Writers for Best Hardcover, a nomination for the Mystery Writers of America’s Sue Grafton Memorial Award and a nomination for an “Audie Award” for best mystery audiobook. Her work has appeared on numerous bestseller lists and earned a spot on the Boston Globe’s shortlist for best crime novel. Her most recent book, The Burning, was released in July 2024. Let’s Read 20 and Marion Public Library will host author and illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka. As an author with a full-range appeal to different ages of readers (including reluctant readers), and one who is an accomplished illustrator, he will bring a unique approach to reading, learning and connecting kids with books. To kick off March’s National Reading month, LR20 will distribute Krosoczka’s book - Punk Farm to all elementary and preschools in Marion County with the intention of having the book read in the classrooms on March 3 - Let’s Read 20, Marion! day. Then on Tuesday, March 11, author Jarrett J. Krosoczka will be at Marion Public Library offering a short program and book signing. As part of connecting the author with readers, copies of the book Punk Farm and, Krosoczka’s graphic novel Lunch Lady will be given out to students (while supply last) who attend the program. LetsRead20.org/campaigns DIRECTOR’S NOTE Gary Branson William Kent Krueger writes a mystery series set in the northwoods of Minnesota. His protagonist is Cork O’Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage—part Irish and part Ojibwe. His work has received a number of awards, including the Minnesota Book Award, the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, the Anthony Award, the Barry Award, the Dilys Award, and the Friends of American Writers Prize. His last thirteen novels were all New York Times bestsellers. Ordinary Grace, his stand-alone novel published in 2013, received the Edgar Award, given by the Mystery Writers of America in recognition for the best novel published in that year. The companion novel, This Tender Land, was published in September 2019 and spent nearly six months on the New York Times bestseller list. As a graduate of the Harvard School of Public Health, sought-after advisor and keynote speaker, and founder of Social Health Labs, Killam has been improving global well-being through connection for over a decade. Her collaborations with organizations like Google, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and the World Economic Forum contribute to building more socially healthy products, workplaces, and communities. Killam’s insights can be found in outlets such as The New York Times, Forbes, NPR, Scientific American, Psychology Today, and The Washington Post. August 14: Michael Koryta (Scott Carson) is a New York Times-bestselling author whose work has been translated into more than 20 languages and has won or been nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, Edgar Award, Shamus Award, Barry Award, Quill Award, International Thriller Writers Award, and the Golden Dagger. You may also recognize him as Scott Carson, his pseudonym name. Michael feels most writers secretly desire another identity. He is one of many authors who write under multiple names. His reasoning is to fulfill a lifelong fantasy of having a name that could be spelled and easily pronounced. His 2024 release, Lost Man’s Lane, was under Scott Carson. We are offering these classes again to those 60 years of age and older who want to know more about navigating a computer and the Internet; want to figure out how to send an email and retrieve it again; or simply want to write a document and save it. All of these subjects and more will be addressed in our 60+ digital literacy classes designed to guide participants through real- world, hands on learning. Classes will be limited to 10 students with preference given to those who have not already taken the classes. Those registering will sign up to attend 4-weekly classes, (starting January 10) choosing between a morning or afternoon session. Additionally, the Library’s regular programming will offer four related programs to enhance individuals online literacy.
