The Wire - September 2019

The Adult Lifelong Learning ( all ) program is a new venture for Marion Public Library, Marion Technical College, and other com- munity partners that have teamed up to offer local residents opportunities to take classes in a wide variety of subjects. Sever- al classes will be offered beginning this fall, with a more extensive course list- ing planned for 2020. The fall classes will be free of charge, with plans for a nominal per-class fee beginning in 2020. Those interested will be able to regis- ter for classes by contacting the Library or by signing up at adult-lifelong-learning. An open house event is planned for September 16 at 3:00pm where Fall 2019 classes will be unveiled and enrollment will kick off. “We are filling a gap in the commu- nity by offering lifelong learning opportunities for older adults who seek social connections in an atmos- phere of creativity and personal growth,” said Gary Branson, Executive Director of Marion Public Library. “Education doesn’t end on graduation day,” he added, “especially in this day and age. We will continue to push the mes- sage that learning is a lifelong activity that is crucial for personal growth.” The classes typically consist of multiple sessions, often spanning several weeks. They will be led by local subject matter experts, educators, and academic faculty. Branson said a Library-led committee is already hard at work building the course offerings for next spring and fall.
