User Conduct Policy

User Conduct Policy:

  1. The goal of this policy is to ensure that all library users will be able to accomplish their library activities without being disturbed by inappropriate behavior of other users. The following is a list of some types of inappropriate behavior (the list is not exhaustive; other types of behavior may be deemed inappropriate at staff discretion):
    • Abusive or vulgar language
    • Being under the influence or the possession of drugs and/or alcohol
    • Fighting, physical violence, or threatening behavior
    • Harassment or unwanted interaction
    • Not wearing shirts or shoes (public health standard) or wearing clothing inappropriate to a public setting.
    • Loitering or excessive moving throughout the building
    • Loud talking or making noise
    • Inappropriate use of furniture or the excessive moving of furniture
    • Smoking (Ohio Revised Code 3794.02 A)
    • Food in computer area is prohibited; beverages without secure lids or caps are also prohibited.
    • Solicitation or the selling of goods and services
    • Vandalism
    • Pets are not permitted in the library; service animals are welcome.
    • Deadly weapons or dangerous ordnance not permitted on library property (Ohio Revised Code 2923.1212 A)

  2. Criminal activity will be reported to the police.

  3. Users in violation of this policy will receive one warning. If they continue to behave inappropriately after the warning, they will be told to leave the building and grounds immediately. In cases of gross misconduct, users in violation of this policy will not receive a warning and will be told to leave the library building and grounds immediately. If the user does not leave when asked by the library staff, the police will be called.

  4. Administration of this policy shall be the responsibility of the Library Director, and the enforcement of this policy shall be the responsibility of all library employees. All patrons banned for more than three months will be reported at the next monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees.

  5. All library patrons, regardless of age, must follow the User Conduct Policy.
